Thu Nguyen Duc, founder of “Nguyen for Art” in Vietnam and designer of numerous creations using EFFIX CREA mortar, has just installed a translucent staircase in a Hanoi villa.
What led you to found Nguyen for Art?
An economist trained at Paris-Dauphine University, I founded Nguyen for Art to satisfy my love of art. Because art speaks to the soul, it is not only for a select few. My job is to imagine the theme of the work and cooperate as needed with the architects and artists to realise the project. Our clients are wealthy people in Vietnam, who have contributed to the country's strong economic growth for two decades.
How would you characterise your creations?
They are very personalised, in order to best meet the demands of our customers. Our unique hand-crafted creations are sophisticated and elegant. We use innovative high-performance materials, mainly EFFIX CREA. This mortar stimulates our creativity: it allows us to design very fine porcelain-like surfaces and objects of all shapes, in which we can easily integrate light.
What is the concept behind the Carnival staircase?
This staircase was designed for a villa in Hanoi, to connect the ground floor and the basement, where there is a library, antiques and a wine tasting area. It takes you from a state of excitement to a state of reflection in an instant. The colours of this staircase, made with EFFIX CREA, express this excitement – hence its name: Carnival. Our company is expected to make many more such staircases in the future because demand is high.
